National Register properties
are significant historical, architectural, or archaeological resources
in South Carolina that are listed in the National Register of Historic
Places. Altogether, over one thousand South Carolina properties --
some individual properties, some entire districts have been listed
in the Register. These properties link us tangibly to our past and
contribute to our understanding of the history of our communities,
our state, and our nation. All are irreplaceable cultural resources.
Through the two grants described below, photographs of National Register properties were scanned and placed on-line along with scans of the National Register nominations. Follow this link to access the images.
- The South Carolina Department of Archives and History through a Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services and administered by the South Carolina State Library has been digitizing selected holdings of the Archives. At this time scanned documents include: Confederate Pension applications, Insurance file photographs of public schools, 1935-1952, and photographs of National Register properties. Follow this link to access these and other images.
- Scanned copies of the National Register nomination forms have been made possible through a grant from the South Carolina Department of Transportation.
